Get to Know Your Co-workers!

Building Workplace Relationships Establishing good working relationships in the workplace isn’t always easy. It’s even more of a challenge if you are new to the organization or the quiet type. What I have found to be effective is discovering something that you may have in common. You can use ask these questions to learn even more about your peers and subordinates. Schedule a 1:1 meeting (call it a Join-up, if you are new). Discussing these topics can help you both feel more comfortable working together.

  • Where did you grow up?

  • Did you play any sports growing up?

  • What is your guilty pleasure?

  • What are your pet peeves?

  • If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?

  • What skills do you hope to improve?

  • How would your friends or family describe you?

  • What's something you want to learn more about?

  • What advice would you give your past self?

  • Who was your role model growing up?

  • Do you have any family traditions?

  • What's something you've always wanted to try?

  • What are you passionate about?

  • Do you have any secret skills or talents?
